Why is the MySpot200 installed off-center to the right?

E-mail Print PDF

The power to raise the MySpot 200 comes from a gas spring, not unlike the one used to keep car trunks open.  When the driver lowers the barrier using the remote control, the barrier falls -- but not all the way to the ground.  It stays raised about 1" (25mm) off the ground.

As the car enters the space, its right hand front wheel must make contact with the barrier, to push it down to the ground and compress the gas spring.  If the barrier was installed in the middle of the space, the car could drive in without either of the tires driving over the barrier.  In that case, once the car leaves, the unit will not be able to respond to the command from the remote and the barrier will stay down.

The IdlePod (the smaller of the 2 pods) must be on the right edge of the parking stall.  This way the larger PowerPod is in the center of the space, and the car will not ride over it.  This is done both to prevent wear of the housing and to minimize the "bump" that the car needs to drive over.
